The Wolf Among Us Remastered, Telltale's refresh of its 2013 Fables noir mystery, is out on October 29, according to its Metacritic listing, and the reviews are in. Critics are happy to be back in Fabletown. It sits at an 85 Metascore overall, with 86 on PC and 85 on PS5, while the Xbox version is one review short of getting a score, Pure Xbox notes.

Critics mostly agree that the story, the writing and the choices still hold up, and the new lighting, redone environments, deleted scenes and behind-the-scenes extras make this the best way to play it. The common complaints are that there's no new story, the stiff old animations are still here, and the gameplay leans heavily on quick-time events. Several reviewers call it a perfect refresher before The Wolf Among Us 2 in 2027, though owners of the original don't get much reason to buy it again.

Aggregate Scores

  • Metacritic: 85 Metascore (86 PC, 85 PS5, per Pure Xbox) – metacritic.com

What the Critics Are Saying

  • IGN (8/10): The neo-noir story is still "a fantastic one," and the redesigned locations even deepen the mood, plus there's a solid set of bonus features. Stiff, sometimes uncanny animations and a late dip in pacing keep it from feeling fully definitive. – IGN
  • GamingTrend (9.5/10): Still best in class for narrative adventures, with grounded choices that don't oversell themselves, and the new visuals and deleted scenes make it a joy to revisit. – via Pure Xbox
  • CGMagazine (9/10): The definitive way to play the cult classic, but it sticks so close to the original that current owners have little reason to double dip beyond carrying their choices over. – via Pure Xbox
  • TheGamer (9/10): No new story here, but it's the perfect way to revisit Bigby's case before the sequel arrives. – via Pure Xbox
  • Checkpoint Gaming (9/10): More than a fresh coat of paint, and it renewed the reviewer's faith in the new Telltale, despite a few small issues. – via Pure Xbox
  • Noisy Pixel (8.5/10): A welcome visual and performance upgrade that keeps the strong writing and atmosphere, though aging animations, lots of QTEs and little new material keep it from feeling modern. – via Pure Xbox
  • Game Rant (8/10): "A good remaster of a great game," and the best way to play it now, even if it shares some of the 2013 original's limits. – via Pure Xbox
  • Final Weapon (8/10): A great appetizer for the sequel with plenty of extras for longtime fans, though some lighting changes take away from the original's look, and the new additions are on the small side. – via Pure Xbox
  • Console Creatures (8/10): A great return to one of Telltale's best and a brilliant entry point for new players, apart from some dated animations. – via Pure Xbox

The consensus: If you never played The Wolf Among Us, this is the version to get, and it's a great way to catch up before The Wolf Among Us 2. If you already played it, you're mostly paying for nicer lighting, deleted scenes and extras, since the story and animations are largely the same as they were in 2013.

IMPRESSIONS OF THE MANDALORIAN AND ITS ARTWORK (SPOILERS)

The first episode of The Mandalorian has been out for around 24 hours now and we have to say it was amazing! Not only does it perfectly capture why a lot of people fell in love with Star Wars in the first place, but it takes certain story line elements of the franchise in great new directions. Yes, (in typical Star Wars fashion) there were a couple of awkward moments, but overall this new series BLOWS The Last Jedi out of the water and sets a new standard for what all future Star Wars movies and series should aspire to be. Also, If you saw the end credits artwork and thought "I need that," then search no more. Below is a link to where you can download them all: https://imgur.com/a/NCpEVv6   Image credit to Disney.
