Gaming News Roundup: Jagex AI Trailer Blowup, GTA 6 LOVE Mag, Aion 2 Launch & More (Oct 5, 2026)

Monday’s feed is RuneFest fallout, Rockstar soft-launching character lore in a fashion mag, and a stack of games that actually ship this week. Jagex yanked a Dragon Slayer 2 trailer after the sixth finger showed up, GTA 6’s LOVE Magazine issue landed, Aion 2 went live, and Arc Raiders is about to throw the doors open for free. Here’s the Lanbrew gaming roundup for October 5, 2026.

Jagex pulls Dragon Slayer 2 trailer after AI artifacts

RuneFest’s goodwill took a hit: the sketched cinematic for RuneScape 3’s Dragon Slayer 2 quest got yanked after players spotted a six-fingered hand and footwear that looked suspiciously like Air Jordans. Timing was brutal — days earlier a Jagex community manager had sworn off generative AI in games, marketing, and partner merch. Jagex says a trusted external partner promised no GenAI, admits the sixth finger is “pretty hard to explain away,” is overhauling review processes, and plans to commission community creators to tell the quest properly. Material update on yesterday’s RuneFest coverage.

GTA 6 LOVE Magazine: no “background” characters, a smaller American Dream

LOVE Magazine Issue 27 (out Oct 5) is Rockstar’s deepest Jason/Lucia sit-down yet. Writing director James Horton: “There’s no ‘background’ in this game — just foreground you’re not paying attention to right now.” Florida research trips feed NPC talk, clothes, and hair; Rupert Humphries frames the American Dream as “a house for your family and your loans paid off” rather than wild excess. Lucia is meant to sit alongside Arthur Morgan and Niko Bellic as a lead; Jason’s choices still bend with the player. The Jason/Lucia cover sold out fast.

Aion 2 is live (free-to-play on PC)

NCSoft’s Unreal Engine 5 MMO launched today on Steam and PURPLE — flight-first aerial combat, faction war, a world billed as 36× the original, 200+ dungeons, and a mature rating for the gore. Founder’s Pack buyers already had Advance Access from Sept 30. NCSoft also disclosed some assets (Arcana cards, select icons) used AI tools, which will matter to a chunk of the audience before they even make a character.

Star Wars: Galactic Racer wants to be the Hades of racing

Fuse Games and Lucasfilm sat with Polygon ahead of tomorrow’s Oct 6 launch (PS5, PC, Xbox Series). The pitch isn’t Episode I nostalgia cosplay — it’s a run-based, consequence-heavy roguelite loop where failing races is part of the skill curve. Matt Webster calls it a roguelike by definition; Craig Derrick’s line: don’t make a good racer and slap Star Wars on it — make a game that could only exist as a Star Wars racer. Hands-off tutorials on purpose.

Rumor mill: PS6 launch-window revivals for Sly, Killzone, Ape Escape

Metro’s GameCentral passes along ResetEra chatter that Sony is opening external pitches/licensing on dormant PlayStation IPs, with Sly Cooper, Killzone, and Ape Escape named for a “first wave” aimed at the PS6 launch window (still vaguely 2027–2028). Same rumor cluster points at Guerrilla + People Can Fly on a Killzone remaster/remake, and recent Uncharted revival noise at Naughty Dog. All unconfirmed — treat accordingly.

AI “mashup” game videos spark modder backlash

VGC covers the social trend of Claude-assisted overlays — Minecraft in Elden Ring, Skate 3 in MW2, Mario 64 in Dark Souls, etc. — that look like crossovers but are basically synced green-screen tricks. Some find it funny; modders call it jingling-keys slop and worry it’ll drown real work. Banjo-Kazooie PC-port lead DarioSamo publicly distanced their team from an AI-assisted Banjo-Tooie port built on their tools.

Kena: Scars of Kosmora slips to 2027

Ember Lab pushed the Kena: Bridge of Spirits sequel off 2026 so they can polish a bigger game that “exceeds” the original. Still headed to PS5 and PC; no exact 2027 date yet. Bridge of Spirits sat in the low-80s on Metacritic, so the bar they’re chasing is already respectable.

PUBG: Black Budget is canceled

Krafton’s extraction-shooter experiment is dead. After Closed Alphas, PUBG Studios said the current direction couldn’t deliver a long-term experience players would stick with, thanked testers, and pointed learnings at future projects. Black Budget joins Blindspot on the scrap pile; DED.NET (the Gamescom roguelite) is still alive for now.

Peter Molyneux wants to play the new Fable “as a gamer”

In a PCGamesN chat, the Lionhead co-founder says he’s proud Playground is continuing Fable, warmed up after early “too fairytale” nerves on the Ayoade Jack-and-the-Beanstalk video, and is curious how alignment still paints the world. His angle: he’s played every Fable he made hundreds of times — this reboot would be the first he experiences like a normal player. First in line, he claims.

The Expanse: Osiris Reborn targets spring 2027

Owlcat’s Expanse RPG (concurrent with TV seasons 1–3) is locking a spring 2027 window. Custom mercenary, Steven Strait’s Holden likeness, NASA-advised zero-g/magnetic boot bits, and a nonlethal/immersive-sim bent Polygon likened to Hitman. Beta access is tied to Miller’s Pack / Collector’s Edition preorders.

Modern Warfare 4’s “Server Culling” aims to gut wallhacks

Infinity Ward/Activision are talking up occlusions on the server: if you can’t see an enemy behind cover, the server shouldn’t send you their position data either — so classic wallhacks get a lot less to chew on. Planned alongside Ricochet for launch multiplayer maps, DMZ/Combat Outpost, Warzone, and Season 1 content. Big claim; cheaters will still try.

POKEMON SWORD AND SHIELD REVIEW ROUNDUP

The reviews are in before Pokemon Sword and Shield hits stores this Friday. Overall, if you're a huge Pokemon fan, things are looking pretty good. Larger outlets are claiming that while this installment of the Pokemon franchise doesn't innovate as much as they hoped it would, it is still a lot of fun and vastly expands our options for future Pokemon titles. GHOST RECON BREAKPOINT GETS A QOL UPDATE

While most of you have probably heard that Ghost Recon Breakpoint did not launch with great reviews, you may not have heard that Ubisoft has vowed to fix their semi-broken AAA title. That said, and launching today (Nov. 12th), Breakpoint will be receiving a major quality-of-life update that addresses things like stamina, switching firing positions while in cover, and much more. IMPRESSIONS OF THE MANDALORIAN AND ITS ARTWORK (SPOILERS)

The first episode of The Mandalorian has been out for around 24 hours now and we have to say it was amazing! Not only does it perfectly capture why a lot of people fell in love with Star Wars in the first place, but it takes certain story line elements of the franchise in great new directions. Yes, (in typical Star Wars fashion) there were a couple of awkward moments, but overall this new series BLOWS The Last Jedi out of the water and sets a new standard for what all future Star Wars movies and series should aspire to be. Also, If you saw the end credits artwork and thought "I need that," then search no more. Below is a link to where you can download them all: https://imgur.com/a/NCpEVv6   Image credit to Disney.
